Safety on foot

Walking or running outdoors always requires common sense and judgement. Here are some tips to keep yourself safe:

  • West Sussex has some great chalky terrain but it can be slippery in the wet, so be careful
  • Take extra care when crossing busy roads
  • Be wary around farmyards, particularly where there is machinery and livestock
  • Although one of the UK’s sunniest places, remember that the weather can quickly change
  • Always take some water and a hat with you in hot weather and wrap up well in the cold
  • Keep your mobile phone charged up in case of an emergency
  • Don’t wear headphones and listen to music too loudly so you can hear what’s around you

Additionally, it goes without saying but as nature-lovers we’d like our county to stay litter-free. Please take your rubbish with you.
