Off-roading fun near Worthing

If you are in or around Worthing this ride is great for stretching your legs, or when time is short, it took us 1 hour 15 minutes. Getting to the foot of the Downs means you ride for a very short time on a track alongside the A27 but as you cross over and enter the Bridleway at Holt Farm you climb steadily in a conservation area on a gravel track leaving the Town behind you. When we cycled there we were rewarded with amazing bluebells and then stunning views of the Sussex Countryside, the Monarch’s Way, the South Downs Way (in the distance) and the Isle of Wight on the horizon as we crested the hill.

Dropping down on the single track into Findon village (pub detours possible!) follow the Monarch’s Way bridleway across the green, and between fields for an ascent towards Cissbury Ring, the largest hill fort in Sussex. Skirt the inside of the fence line after entering the Cissbury Ring gate by the carpark and through another gate onto a singletrack which keeps the Ring on your left. Enjoy the views from the trails skirting around the Ring until you come to a large signpost and descend from this on a chalky track through the golf course until you meet the road once more.

I often can’t believe how much I get away from it all on this loop – all in just over an hour.
