Clear thinking at Cissbury Ring

There are many routes up to my favourite walk – the car parks at Storrington Rise, Coombe Rise or Nepcote Lane – wherever I start there’s always going to be a bit of a climb involved. The effort of getting up to Cissbury Ring is always worth the effort.

Once up the top I can walk in any direction, depending on the way the wind blows, and on a clear, sunny day I’m rewarded with a changing vista in every direction – across Worthing to the sea in one direction, views of Brighton and Devil’s Dyke in another and the fields and hills towards Storrington when looking north west.

In the autumn it’s the ideal place for picking blackberries or sloes. The walk can be long or short depending on time and energy levels – there are footpaths leading off in every direction – Monarch’s Way or towards Steyning and Chanctonbury Ring on the South Down’s Way. Fellow walkers and cyclists are always ready with a cheery greeting.

There are the pubs or Julia’s Kitchen in Findon Village for a drink and snack. On a sunny day it’s fantastic but on a dull rainy day it’s the perfect place to blow away the cobwebs and re-invigorate me after a day sitting at an office desk. The icing on the cake for me is it’s only about a mile from my front door!
